Shannon and Weaver:

  • Asked to do research at the Bell telephone company in 1949 about how to make the phone lines more effective.
  • Drew up a model of how all communication was thought to work.

  1. Technical / logistical
  2. Semantic / Understanding
  3. Effectiveness
